About Us:
Sona Special Power Electronics & Electric Drives (Sona SPEED) of Sona College of Technology (SCT), Salem has successfully designed and developed few types of special Brushless DC motors for ISRO Inertial Systems Unit (IISU) and Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram.
The 2.0Nm developed torque, 50rpm rotation cogging free Slotless Brushless DC (BLDC) motor for IISU is for use in the Scan-Mechanism of MADRAS (Microwave Analysis Detection of Rain and Atmospheric Structures) payload for the Megha Tropiques Spacecraft. The Flight motor made by Sona SPEED is used in the satellite to be launched during 2011.
The 32Nm developed torque and 1000rpm rotation Quadruplex Brushless DC Torque motor for VSSC is for the application of the C25 Rocket Engine Gimbal control mechanism. For the application of Geosynchronous Satellite launch Vehicle (GSLV).
In addition Sona SPEED has designed and developed principle demonstration models of Reaction wheel, Gyroscope, Scan mirror mechanism and rate gyroscope for ISRO space museums and academic institutions.
Further, Sona SPEED designed and developed 2.5Nm Limited Angle Torquer (LAT), permanent magnet stepper motor, High current 10KW BLDC motor with drive electronics for launch vehicle and deep sea applications.
